Nova Institute of Technology has adopted a "satisfactory attendance policy" rather than "satisfactory academic progress". Over a period of time it became evident that satisfactory academic progress was linked directly with attendance. To ensure that our students are given an optimum environment for academic achievement we have implemented an attendance requirement of 80% in any given period of study. The Institute is now required to report a student to DIAC for unsatisfactory attendance. For further or more detailed information please go to Monitoring and Reporting the Attendance Policy
On successful completion of a course of study, students must fill out an Application for Award form and/or a Statement of Attainment Application form to receive their certificate.
The application forms are available from administration at reception. Student needs to ensure that all details are filled correctly. Administration will acknowledge receipt of the application form and a copy will be given to students.
Before issuing any certificate, Administration will check to ensure that students have no outstanding financial liabilities to the institute. The status of the course /unit completion will be checked by administration, verified by the program manager and authorized by the institute PEO. The award and/or statement of attainment will be printed and signed by the PEO.
The award and/or statement of attainment will then be dispatched as per the preferred mode selected on the application.
ESOS - ALL STUDENTS
All students should be aware of the ESOS framework, it is available electronically at http://aei.dest.gov.au/AEI/ESOS/QuickInfo/ESOS_FrameWork_pdf.pdf
COMPUTERS & INTERNET
Nova Computer Rooms are located at the city campus and provide students with Internet access via their own secure login. These facilities are available 8.30am until 7.30pm Monday to Friday.
Advice is available to assist students in their search for work and accommodation. This is provided in the form of one to one assistance in accessing resources for finding accommodation as well as workshops on writing resumes and cover letters.
Upon commencement of their course students may apply for a work permit and work up to 20 hours per week provided that work does not interfere with their studies. You must not work for more than 20 hours per week during the semester. During official holidays between semesters there are no restrictions on the number of hours you may work.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to find part-time work. Students must ensure their financial independence before coming to Australia.
LANGUAGE & LEARNING SKILLS
Additional classes are available to assist students who may be having difficulties with their English language skills and study techniques.
Students participate in an Orientation Program providing detailed information regarding life and study in Melbourne. The program also includes a full tour of all Nova's facilities.
Nova offers free Counselling services to students and provides referral contact information, where appropriate. Referral to private practitioners will be at the expense of the student. All information is treated as confidential and special attention is given to the specific challenges international student encounter when adjusting to a new cultural environment.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
